Asato Ma Sadgamaya – In English & Sanskrit With Meaning
Taken from Brihadaranyaka Upanishads (1.3.28), Asatoma Sadgamaya (असतो मा सद्गमय) is a Shanti Mantra (Mantra of peace). It is an intense prayer by an individual spiritual seeker asking the almighty to remove the veil of ignorance and enable him to attain the ultimate knowledge making him free from the cycle of life and death. It is used as a prayer in Indian schools, during spiritual or religious gatherings, social events and also at the end of a Yoga Session.

Asato Ma Sadgamaya is true prayer in which the seeker is admitting his sense of limitedness and is his heartfelt prayer to the Almighty for assistance in transcendence. It is not a prayer for the materialistic things of the world like health, wealth, success, fame, glory or even for heaven. One who recites this mantra has realized that these things cannot give the real joy that he is seeking but are soaked in pain and will forever leave him wanting. The essence of this peach Mantra is: “O Almighty, please help me to free myself from my misunderstandings regarding myself, the universe and God and bless me with true knowledge”.
