In her previous birth, Maa Chandraghanta was Devi Sati, who sacrificed her life when her father insulted Lord Shiva.

She was reborn as Parvati, the daughter of Himalaya, and performed severe penance to marry Lord Shiva.

On the wedding day, Shiva arrived with a frightening procession of ghosts, demons, and ascetics. To protect her family’s honor, Maa Parvati assumed a fierce form – Maa Chandraghanta. With golden complexion, ten arms, and divine weapons, she convinced Lord Shiva to appear in a pleasant form, after which their marriage was solemnized.
Another Legend – Mahishasura Vadh
According to another story, when demon Mahishasura attacked heaven, the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh) released divine energy that manifested as Maa Chandraghanta. Armed with the weapons of the gods, she fought bravely and killed Mahishasura, restoring peace in heaven.
