brahmacharini-mata

Maa Brahmacharini (माता ब्रह्मचारिणी) – Mantra, Stotra, Kavach, Aarti

On the second day of Navaratri, Maa Brahmacharini, the second manifestation of Maa Durga, is worshipped. Goddess Brahmacharini signifies love, loyalty, wisdom, and knowledge. Goddess Brahmacharini is depicted as walking on the bare feet. She carries Jap Mala (rosary) in her right hand and Kamandal in the left hand. She wears Rudraksha.

The word “Brahm” refers to Tapa and her name means -the one who performs Tapa. Going by the story, she was born to Lord Himalaya. Devrishi Narada influenced her thoughts and as a result, she practiced severe penance to obtain Lord Shiva as her divine consort. She performed hard austerity and due to which She was called Brahmacharini.  It is stated that She spent 1000 years on the diet of flowers and fruits and another 100 years on the diet on leafy vegetables while sleeping on the floor. She followed a strict fasting regimen while staying at an open place in the scorching heat of summers, harsh winters, and stormy rains. Her penance was so pure and had so much power that her desire to obtain Lord Shiva as her divine consort was eventually fulfilled.

Brahmacharini Aarti –
