Goddess Durga is the personification of power (Shakti) and manifests herself in nine forms. These nine forms of Durga are religiously Worshiped one by one during nine days of Navratri. Devi Shailputri is first among nine embodiments of Goddess Durga and is worshiped during the first day of Navratri, thus giving Navratri an auspicious start. She is also considered to be a form of Mother Nature.
Goddess Shailputri was born to the Lord Himalaya after the self-immolation of Goddess Sati. In Sanskrit “Shaila” means Mountain and hence the Goddess came to be known as Shailaputri, the daughter of the mountain. She is also known as Parvati and Hemavati. Goddess Shailputri got married to Lord Shiva. Her favorite flower is Jasmine.
Devi Shailputri is worshiped along with Lord Shiva his consort (wife). She is also the mother of Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha. She looks after all living beings including humans, animals, trees, and every living thing on Earth. She holds a lotus flower in her left hand and a Trishul (trident) in her right hand. Her ‘Vahana’ is the bull, and because of it, she is also known as Vrisharudha.

Goddess Shailputri Story
According to Hindu Mythology, Goddess Shailaputri in her previous birth was Sati, the daughter of Daksha. Once Daksha performed a big Yajna without inviting Lord Shiva. Sati came to attend the holy function. There she found that her father has invited all the Devtas (deities) but Lord Shiva was left out purposely and she felt it as an insult to her husband. Sati could not bear the thought of her father having insulted her husband, and she self-immolated herself in the fire of Yajna. In another birth, she became the daughter of the Himalaya and got married to Shiva as Hemavati.
Goddess Of Root Chakra
Maa Shailaputri is considered as the Goddess of the Muladhara (root) chakra. Worshipping her will help in stimulating and finally awakening the Muladhara chakra,
