Katyayani Devi Story
To destroy the demon Mahishasura, Goddess Parvati took the form of Goddess Katyayani. According to Hindu mythology and beliefs, there existed a demon Mahishasura, whose atrocities created havoc and were assuming gigantic proportions. He even aimed at destroying the earth and the gods (Devtas). All the Gods (Devtas) then prayed to Goddess Durga to save them from him. Goddess Durga then assumed the form of Katyayani, who, equipped with powers and weapons from Gods, confronted the demon. He began changing his forms, one of which was that of a buffalo. Goddess Durga sprang on the back of Mahishasura from Her lion and struck his head and killed him.
