Surya Namaskar Names & Steps With Mantra
Surya Namaskar, (सूर्य नमस्कार) also called Sun Salutation is a complete sadhana in itself. Surya Namaskara mantras (सूर्य नमस्कार मंत्र) can be chanted either audibly or mentally while practicing the Sun Salutation. There are 12 positions in Surya Namaskar each with 12 mantras linked with it. Surya Namaskar names with the corresponding mantra is given hereunder.
It is a spiritual practice in itself which includes asanas, pranayama, mantra, and meditation techniques. Surya Namaskar, also called Sun Salutation, is a set of 12 powerful yoga postures that is a great way for you to stay fit and attain peace of mind and soul.
Steps of 12 Poses Of Surya Namaskar With Names & Mantras
1.Pranamasana
Pranamasana is also called a prayer pose. Stand upright on your mat and join your hands in front of the chest in Namaskar mudra.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Mitraya Namaha.
2.Hasta Utthanasana
Keeping the palms joined in the previous prayer position, breathe in and lift your arms up, and bend backward slightly.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Ravaye Namaha.
3.Padahastasana
While breathing out start bending forward from the hips until the palms of both hands touch the floor on either side of the feet.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Suryaya Namaha
4.Ashwa Sanchalanasana
Breathe in and stretch the right leg back as far as is comfortable. Let the right knee touch the floor and also put the toes of the right foot on the floor.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Bhanave Namaha
5.Parvatasana
Stretch the left foot back beside the right foot. Raise the buttocks and lower the head between the arms so that a shape of a mountain is formed by the body.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Khagaya Namaha
6.Ashtanga Namaskara
Keeping the feet and hands at the same place as in position 5, start lowering the body to the floor, in such a manner that the knees, chest, and chin touch the floor.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Pushne Namaha
7.Bhujangasana
With the toes and hands on the floor as in position 6, slide the chest forward raising first the head, the shoulders, the chest, and the abdomen till the navel, and come in the cobra pose. Buttocks and hips are lowered to the floor with the arms supporting the trunk.

8.Parvatasana
While breathing out, raise the buttocks and lower the head between the arms so that the shape of a mountain is formed by the body, same as was done in position 5.

9.Ashwa Sanchalanasana
While breathing in bend the right leg and bring the right foot forward between the hands. At the same time lower the left knee to touch the floor. Tilt the head backward and arch the back.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Adityaya Namaha
10.Padahastasana
Now slowly bring your left foot forward, next to the right foot as you exhale. Keeping the position of your hands intact, lift yourself up to slowly enter Hasta Padasana.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Savitre Namaha
11.Hasta Utthanasana
While breathing in start raising the torso and stretch the arms above the head. Bend the arms, head and upper trunk backward. Both the arms should be shoulder-width apart.
- Surya Namaskar Mantra: Om Arkaya Namaha
12.Pranamasana
While breathing out bring the palms together and join them in front of the chest.
